One of the greatest problems of the large cities is the noise pollution in the settlement areas. In the land road traffic, the reasons of the noise pollution include engine of the vehicles, traffic congestion, horns and quality of the road. Particularly, the contact of the vehicle tire with the road surface is an important source of noise. According to the researches conducted, if the speed of a car exceeds 60 kph, the noise caused by the contact with the road is higher than engine noise.

ŬSFALT developed noise-reducing asphalt in order to deter the tire-road noise caused by the contact with the road. The noise-reducing asphalt is applied in the areas nearby the hospital, schools and rest homes.

Surface roughness and porousness generally reduce the tire-road noise. The reason for such reduction is the air remaining within the profiles of the tires escaping through the road roughness. The porous structure of the road surface has the acoustic absorption, and is more effective at higher frequencies. As a result of the studies conducted in this direction, the road surface was given sound absorption feature by adding rubber-based additives to the hot bitumen mixture with cut gradation. Thus, noise-reducing asphalt featuring these properties was spread in several settlement areas.
